Read Patrick Madden's essay, "The Infinite Suggestiveness of Common Things". This essay can be found on our class webpage under SLCC documents. The excerpt comes from his book of nonfiction entitled Quotidiana.

Assignment: In a paragraph (about 200 words) respond to either the author (what do you find interesting about his take on essays), or write a response on how you personally view his perspective. Ethan Barnett Period.3


"Writing lets me figure out what it is that I'm thinking, by putting words onto pages and telling the story of my life, my experiences, and the world as I see it around me."
I agree with this. Writing for me is a way that i can see how i feel and think about the world around me, and also with events. I know with my memoir that i was sad and felt like an idiot running over the curb, But while writing it i also realized that i felt like a disappointment to my parents at the time. Now i know that its not true now and never will be or has been but not until i wrote this memoir did i realize that's how i truly felt. 

 "The more we write, the better we can teach, explain, love, persuade."
I agree with this but there is also a flip side to this. I've noticed that the more i write ive been better and understanding of whats being taught, and explained. writing is a art and how you perceive writing, and how you might write somethings, is all about you and how you understand writing, and how you view writing.

    I definitely agree that writing helps to organize thinking. Just as you mentioned about the memoir when thinking back on it your realize new aspects of it that you may not have seen before because of your thought process when writing it out. I really agree with your last sentence about how writing really helps your understanding and perception. Awesome response.
