Gavin Degen, Period 5

The article related to me as soon as it started because it relayed the fact that writing can be very difficult at times. The advice given is very helpful and well thought out. I can really tell that the author knows what she is talking about and is giving us help through her own personal experiences. I loved when she wrote "Inevitably, the process gets difficult in weeks two and week three, because I ask people to share parts of their stories—their wishes, hopes and dreams, who they are." I can easily see how this applies to me. The stories that we are asked to write are not always easy or fun. Sometimes they take great concentration and bravery on our part to get going. Her advice to us is to be bold and brave when writing because that is what it takes to be great. Peck says, "Writing is intimidating for so many reasons. We're scared that we won't capture the ideas or know what to say—and we're afraid of what we'll discover or become if we do pencil out those terrifying thoughts." This is so accurate about the many fears and concerns that young writers have today.
