What a fun writing style! I really enjoyed reading Madden's essay and it honestly made me ponder some very new and comforting ideas. I thoroughly enjoyed the new perspective that I was given on suggestions and inspiration as a whole. Throughout the piece, Madden's story telling route and daily experiences not only made for a fun read but also a realistic mindset.  His confidence at the beginning of  "The Infinite Suggestiveness of Common Things" was startling and a true realization for me. Madden chooses to start off by explain he has no idea what he will be writing about in the future and that this is not only acceptable, but encouraged. As writers and scholars, and even on a basic level, all humans, tend to plan to far ahead and become stressed or depressed about the futures that await us.
Next I love how Madden was able to show the pressures of a writer, "[The professor] wanted me to admit that I’d have to turn to fiction," He states, "or suffer the ignominy of rewriting the same handful of exciting experiences I’d had in my life." Later he brings up that stereotypes are very prevalent in the claim of being a writer. How the author states this truth and supports it with humor and backs it up with personality made it an exciting and educational essay.
