Patrick Madden made it seem like he had a hard time being creative himself and had to look to other things to spark his mind to write. His professor challenged him to be do something different and in doing so Patrick Madden looked at his writhing in a different way. He realized that good essayists don't just write about experiences and cool stories, they have a gift to see every little detail that happens in their lives and write creatively about it. Patrick Madden at first told his professor that he would just use his kids because they are unpredictable and kids are interesting to write about. What he didn't realize until later was that kids can be the key to his writing not just because of how they act but how they see things. The imagination that kids have is unbelievably and they make everything seem so real to them, catching that and putting it down on paper would be marvelous. When being an essayist you have to see the little things that nobody else does, we over look the tiniest details but those little details is what males a good essay. Patrick Madden realized that catching those little details is what makes the words come to life and have so much meaning because once we realize it we can connect it to our own experiences. It opens your eyes.
