I believe Patrick Madden's theory on writing essays, and how you can never really run out of ideas to write about. In the piece I read he told a quote by Scott Russell Sanders saying that we "sleep" through half our lives and only wake up when something stir us out of our daze. Most people go through there lives with out noticing that they are in a daze, and miss out on a lot. Patrick Madden wants to stay out of the daze and write about all of the experiences he has. If you live by his theory when writing you will never run out of topics.
