When I first looked at this essay I did not want to read it. It appeared to be some pointless essay that was forever long. However once I forced myself to read it, I found many interesting ideas. I really liked Patrick Madden's point of view on life. When a friend of his tells him that he will one day have nothing to write about, Patrick says otherwise. He claims he will always have something to write about by saying that children are "a renewable source of writing material." The simplest and most mundane things in our everyday life can be really enjoyable and excited if you look at them with a different perspective. My favorite quote by Madden was when he said, "Essayists are keen observers of the overlooked, ignored, the seemingly unimportant." We are always trying to have the biggest and greatest things in life. The best experience or the craziest. If you take a step back and view life as Madden does, you can realize that everyday can be enjoyable and excited. Reading this essay really made me think about that. I really enjoyed and admired Patrick Madden's point of view.

Riley,
ReplyDeleteI liked how you focused on how Madden can find ANYTHING to write about. I also like how you started out the essay truthfully! Good work.
