Whitney G. 7th period

"I prefer when the essay takes a small, very particular subject and, through the force of the essayist’s artistically controlled maunderings touches on unpredictably large general matters, makes hitherto unexpected conclusions, tells me things I hadn't hitherto known, or reminds me of other things I have always known but never thought to formulate so well." -The Best American Essays 1993. I find this quote quite interesting because a person could write about anything they could even rewrite something and it would still be new. Each person has their own perspective, so when they write something they could open someone else's eyes and help them see something that they've always known in a whole new perspective. I find it quite interesting how Patrick Madden uses that perspective. I also find it interesting how Patrick Madden says children can open your eyes to things you've never thought to even notice. When you think about it, it is true. because children are full of hope and wonder. They look for the good in everything. They have more of an open mind than most adults do. That's why most children are so creative. I really like Patrick Madden's perspective on writing, I find it quite intriguing and eye opening.

  1. I liked the quote and your comments that you mentioned above. It is true, an author can write something once, rewrite it, change the subject, or even another paper and they all would still be "new." We all have our own freedom of opinion and choice. This gives all of us a voice.
I love how you say that we can get something new out of of something we have known for our whole lives out from someone else's point of view.

I agree completely with your comments on children. Only if we could all see things they way children do; we would all be happier.
